TinMan
I always liked the TinMan, more so the message he stood for. Wanting a heart!
It was Spring of 2000, Emily and I were traveling up the East Coast – driving from Boston to Maine. Along the way we had stopped at an Antique store that looked more like a Flea Market. We bought a few things there however, I was really excited when I came across this bird cage designed with hearts.
At first glance I knew it was for the TinMan. And the funny thing is, like the story we all know, it was looking a little rusty. Maybe that is why I thought right away to place the TinMan beanie I had in there. We had it shipped home along with the other things we purchased.
First thing I did when it finally arrived, was polish it up by using shiny silver spray paint. I then proudly hung it to the right of my desk in my office at home. I recall Savannah asking me why I was putting the TinMan inside the cage; “he is trapped and surrounded with love and he knows it.” I love how she noticed I placed him in the cage swinging – “he is so content with all this love that surrounds him, he is swinging in it.”
When we moved into our current home, I notice in the living room there was already a hanger in the ceiling, and just like seeing the cage for the first time, I knew that was going to be the home for the TinMan.
Rightfully so, Savannah took this photo for me the other day.
