Lucky guy!
My beautiful, talented, daughter Savannah, handmade this heart shaped dish in pottery class for me. The contents are filled with her cute picture of a skunk (that I love) and a variety of different hearts I have received from Cady, Claudia and Savannah.
I’m fortunate to be the recipient of so much love!! I’m one lucky guy!
A little fun and interesting side story: if U look closely U can see there is a coin in this dish. It’s a gold penny – now it is not gold, gold. I had learned when the US Mint does a run of coins the first coin in every new run is gold – again, it’s not actually gold though it’s not painted.
The solid gold colored coin usually doesn’t make it into the mix for circulation with all the new coins. Ironically, whoever it was not doing their job that particular day, letting this particular gold penny slip by – I owe them a HUGE thank U!
It was October 2008, I went into Cub Foods to see if my powerball ticket was a winner – it was not. When I approached the counter, I noticed this gold penny lying on the top of the store register. I asked if it was real gold penny. As I picked it up, I was informed of the story about the US Mint.
Considering I have never seen a gold penny like this, I asked if I could have it. The lady behind the counter said, “yeah, for a penny”. I replied Giddy-Up! reached in my pocket and all I had was a $10 bill (though I hate change – I didn’t even hesitate) – I handed it over and received a $5 bill, four $1 bills and .99¢ in change. I thanked her and stated “my lucky penny!” and proceeded to walk away.
As I was leaving the store, I walked past one of those vending machines that sell scratch-off lottery tickets – (U see where this story is going?). I decided to purchase a “lucky 7’s” scratch-off ticket with the $5 dollar bill I just received. As I was walking out the door – I took the coin and scratched off all the winning numbers and spotted a lucky 7. I started to scratch off the money and seen $7 thinking to myself “good at least I won something” – and headed out to my car.
I threw the ticket onto the passenger seat and started the car, ready to pull out. I’m not sure why, but I picked up the ticket and began to scratch off the remaining space after the $7 and found that I was a winner of $7,777.00. I was in shock and just started laughing – everything happens for a reason!!
Like any sane person, since that day I have tried using this lucky penny to scratch off numerous other tickets. I even have tried carrying the penny around in my pocket, hoping to experience a significant change in my ordinary luck. Maybe if it would have been a nickel or a dime, I could expect to receive more of “a chicken laying a golden egg” result. Apparently, this penny was good for one lucky moment.
That’s cool – U will not get any complaints from me – the penny has given me significant value and more importantly, a great story!
