Flowers of the Trees

As I was sharing in the previous post Framed Heart Art, these flowers of the trees can get quite messy this time of the year, specially when the wind blows them all over.

It was May 2003, and I was dreading the fact it was that time of the year. We were living in our previous home where the driveway was at an incline, from the street to our garage – allowing all the flowers of the trees to blow from the street into our driveway. In order to prevent them all from blowing into the garage as soon the door opened, I would have to sweep off the driveway several times a day.

On this particular day, I was running late to a meeting and I came out of the house and notice a driveway full of these flowers of the trees. I knew I didn’t have time to sweep them up however, as I approached the driver’s side door of my Land Rover I was left standing at awe.

It appears the wind blew these flowers of the trees into the perfect heart shape, right in front of my door. I immediately went into the house and grabbed my camera. After taking several photos, I found the most effective one (pictured here) was from the perspective of laying on the roof rack on top of the truck.

After taking the photo, I went into the house and called and canceled my meeting.  I had to figure out a way to preserve this act of nature, keeping in tact its heart shape.  I started by grabbing some clear spray paint and carefully coating the heart without disturbing the shape.  After several coats I felt confident I could attempt trying to move it.

By using a stiff but very thing white art board, I slid the board underneath the heart shape and transported it into the garage.  Over the next few days I used up the whole can of clear paint on it, to assure it would never break apart.

Sometime later, I then determined I was going to frame it and proceeded to create and paint a background design and then applied “mod podge” to the design and then gently slid the heart piece on top of the new background design, after it dried I framed it.

Both Rylee and Meabh seemed quite surprised with my story, considering all the trouble I went to in preserving and displaying the flowers of the trees heart.  To me, I felt I had no choice, what are the chances that would ever happen again?
