English Muffin

Why is this called an “English Muffin”? It’s not english and it looks nothing like a muffin.
A favorite breakfast item for McKinlee, I had toasted this for her and added some butter. When I handed her the plate – she said ” Mark the butter is shaped as a heart, take a pic for the site”.
I replied to McKinlee, I know it wasn’t heart shaped when I placed the slice of butter on it, must have melted specially for U.
