BBC – Brett Boldt Cool!

I received this awesome Father’s Day card in 2012 from The Son of all Sons – Mr. Brett Boldt Cool!

Side note: Brett was about 2 years old and we were sitting together ready to watch a DVD of Wallace and Gromit for the first time.  The movie was just about to start when a cool sound effect started and the letters BBC came up on the screen – all sparkling and shinny.  Brett’s eye’s lit up and he looked at me and pointed at the screen stating, “What’s that” I was just beginning to say “Bri… when he interrupted me and said “Brett Boldt Cool”- I just stared at him with disbelief – I couldn’t believe he just said that. I asked him “where he learned that” and he looked and me like he didn’t know what I was even talking about.

For those of U who do not know what BBC stands for; its the “British Broadcasting Company”.  However, I was so amazed with his insight,  from that day on, Brett’s nick name was BBCBrett Boldt Cool!  To-date I swear, I have now told this story about 1000 times.

Now back to his “Cool” card:  As U can see Brett wrote, “Happy Father’s Day!!  I love you a lot because you always let me win! Well… I guess not always…  But still I love you a lot.  Your my best-friend & the best father I could ever have. Everything about you is perfect & nothing I would ever change! I hope you have the best day possible.  (he then drew the big heart, for the word love) you forever, Brett Boldt”

The reason he wrote about winning: for awhile last year we were playing quite a bit of cards – mainly cribbage, rummy and spades. And, after winning a hand, he asked me, “if I was letting him win?” I said “heck no, U got lucky, why?” he then asked, “if I ever let him win when he was younger?” and I said, “sometimes, only cuz U would get so mad when U lost.  But not always, cuz U also needed to learn U don’t always win all the time – just like in life. Besides, believe it or not, losing helps U learn.  And, it should also encourage U to play harder to win at your next chance”.  He said, “Touché, good point!  Now deal, I’m winning the next hand too!”

See why I love being a parent so much…  A best-friend and a son tied into one – that’s a double Giddy-up!
