Free Firewood!
Boy, what an interesting but fun ride I been on in the last 24 hours.
It started Monday night, when I took Buck to our neighborhood’s “so-called” dog park; basically it is really big wooded area with numerous large paths that spills out into baseball & playing fields. The perfect secluded area for all the neighbors to let their friendly dogs lose to socialize and burn off some energy.
After Buck was tired from fetching the ball in the playing fields, we proceeded back through the woods to head home and we came across a bike that was laying about 5 feet from the path, semi covered with the surrounding foliage. It was obvious this bike was stolen and either dumped or stashed here.
I gave the bike a quick inspection – it didn’t appear to be your typical Huffy/Schwinn Target bike – seemed more custom. It was obvious the owner was going to be looking for this bike. I decided to take it home and reach out to the neighborhood/community let them know the bike was found.
Before bed I did a little research and found the bike was worth about $1,100. I decided first thing in the morning I would get the word out.
I woke up at about 4:30am and couldn’t sleep, mind was racing, a lot to do today – no better time then the present to get started. A few hours later, I decided to go to Craigslist and place an ad for the bike, “Found… be prepared to answer specific questions to verify U are the owner”. After finishing, I wondered if there were any people on here selling firewood. A quick search provided me with a list of ads; the very first one stated “Free Firewood”, I clicked on the listing and this photo U see here appeared. All I saw was the heart shaped log at the top of the pile and I said, “that’s my wood!”
I seen the number listed, I picked up the phone and called. The gentleman (John) who answered said, I can’t believe it, I just placed this listing not more then 2 minutes ago. I quickly shared discovering the heart log in the photo and I knew the wood was to be mine. I made arrangements for my friend Nick and I to pick up the wood that night and told him to, “have a great day!”
When picking up the wood, John shared that he had to close down his listing within the hour of posting it, since he had received over 20 calls for the wood. As for the wood it’s the perfect size (30” long) for our 4’x 4’ fire pit.
I must say, I never expected to find free wood on Craigslist. However it is true, all good deeds come with their own rewards. I attempt to try to find the owner of this very nice bike and not only do I get free firewood; I get a found heart and a perfect ending to a story to share with U all.
But wait there’s more; see today’s “Your Hearts” posting.
